I carved in stone
the shadow of my light.
I swallowed my sorrow,
ran through the night.
Left my heels,
drowned my dress,
laughed with lungs full of air.
There was no past,
no future,
only the now,
only the dare.
It comes from everywhere
and goes everywhere.
My mind is swollen,
my soul gasping for air.
I run and stop,
run and stop,
not knowing why.
Where is the self?
I’m looking, looking…
My voice is low,
my thoughts are leaking,
yet my body keeps dancing,
trembling, speaking.
I just want it all,
the peace, the love,
the laughs that spill past midnight,
the mountain top,
the fall,
the sea below.
To play with death
to learn what’s life.
To walk the edge
to drop the knife.
But I am a coward,
so I suffer.
I stay where I ache,
where silence hovers.
I’ve learned that’s what adults do,
make money, raise children,
get praised for playing through.
Still, I want it all,
the rush, the calm,
the silent call.
Running, running,
stopping at the cliff’s halo.
Falling in Morpheus’ arms,
giving all my love,
all my love…
No lover,
no plan,
no child,
no dream,
no memory to hold or ban,
just this instant,
bare and grand,
where nothing means,
and everything stands.
Not an apology to death
but to life.
