How to write poetry

This text is an invitation to write poetry your way.

No need for perfection, poetry isn’t about mastery, it’s about honesty.
Whether you feel bright or dark, quiet or chaotic, there’s always a translation in words.

To write poetry, start by slowing down.
Notice what you feel.
Name it, even if it’s vague.
Then let the words come, not to describe, but to reveal.

You don’t need to sound poetic, you just need to be sincere.
Poetry is not an act of decoration, it’s an act of attention.

You don’t force poetry, you listen to it.
You dream, you sense, you remember,
until the words start breathing.

If you want to write dark poetry,
start with a feeling: envy, jealousy, grief.
Then add textures : porcelain, sunlight, shadow, touch.

Let them mix until they form an atmosphere, a pulse.

Poetry grows from rhythm, not rules.

Here is an example :

The sun sung her name.
The plant writhed to do the same.
It made her pretty and delicate,
almost like porcelain.

She reflected my shadow,
oh well, too well,
trying to resist,
dragging at her feet.

But the sun ended up leaving,
and with the night,
I almost win.

I can’t envelop her delicacy,
only circle it,
too careful,
too tempted,
to break it.

Of course, you can still work on your text to make it as you want it to be.
You can choose the right words to deliver the feeling.
You can even be modest; say just enough, so we also feel something,
without having named anything.

Your poetry is for you first. 🖤
